Troll Swarm with Troll's Keyward
« on: October 10, 2008, 11:45:31 AM »
Someone else posted this up here I think, some time ago. I was thinking there'd be ways to expand it or make it better since the cards are only 31 in number. Suggestions?

TROLL SWARM (31)
Troll's Keyward, Keeper of the Beast x4
Ordnance Grunt x2
Tower Troll x2
Beastly Olog-Hai x2
Cave Troll of Moria, Savage Menace x3
Porter Troll x4
Horror of Harad
Vicious Warg x4
Orc Spear x4
Goblin Hordes x2
Barrage x2
Forced March

One problem I foresee is that there wouldn't be enough Keyward, and then the player using this would have to discard several Trolls to get him.

Another issue is: why is he the only lurker? Having 8 possessions that require him and only 4 copies of him is rather tricky..

And there are other cards that could go here, like say Pummeling Blow or Strength in Shadows...what do you guys think? I've seen very strong companions these days, so I'm not sure how these trolls would fare.

Pummeling Blow is flat-out bad and Strength in Shadows gets trumped by Barrage, definitely.

I like the Horror of Harad in there, actually. And Forced March, of course. Enemy upon Enemy, methinks, is a built overkilling it. Perhaps run Goblin Hordes over it. If its too pricey and you wanna build IRL, go for a set of Barrage.

As for not enough Keywards, that is a problem weith troll swarm, but in a 31 card deck paired with a deck that filters well (like troll swarm should), I don't see a problem getting him to late. You'll definitely have it by the time you stop roaming, and though your site 2 nail capabilities (love the 4 trolls at 2 deck...bwahaha) get knocked down if you don't draw him early, you can hopefully set up your hand to blast 24 twilight into gear very fast region 2 which can easily spell 6-7 fierce trolls + Forced March 'em (through crags plz).

I guess I'll replace 2x Enemy Upon Enemy with 2x Barrage then, but Goblin Hordes I would have no room for if the good cycling depended on it being only 31 cards....:S

Well...Goblin Hordes is actually particularly helpful because in case of bad cycling/filtering, you can still "recreate" the effect by nabbing trolls from your graveyard to bump the keyward's count for more twilight.

Darn. If I put in 2x Goblin Hordes, do you think the resultant 33 card deck would be ok?

No. Drop the other two Enemy upon enemy. Enemy Upon Enemy should not be in there. Waste of space.

The only thing it does is recur your Keyward, which Hordes will do anyways.

Assuming your Freeps strews the sitepath with undergrounds, of course. Which it should.
