King Standard: Dwarven/Lost to the Goblins
« on: October 27, 2018, 10:23:43 AM »
Ring-bearer: Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir
Ring: The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles
Starting: Gimli, Feared Axeman
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Smeagol, Poor Creature

Adventure deck:
Dunharrow Plateau
Rohirrim Camp
Hall of the Kings
Anduin Banks
Pelennor Flat
Minas Tirith First Circle
Osgiliath Crossing
Northern Ithilien
Slag Mounds

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
1x Farin, Dwarven Emissary
3x Fror, Gimli's Kinsman
2x Gloin, Friend to Thorin
2x Bounder
2x Axe of Erebor
2x Dwarven Axe
3x Dwarven Bracers
1x Gimli's Helm
1x Sting, Baggins Heirloom
3x Battle Tested
2x Rest by Blind Night
3x Slaked Thirsts
3x Preparations

Shadow Draw Deck:
3x Gollum, Nasty Treacherous Creature
1x Gollum, Plotting Deceiver
4x Goblin Runner
4x Morgul Brute
4x Morgul Destroyer
4x Morgul Spearman
2x Ulaire Lemenya, Assailing Minion
2x Ulaire Nertea, Black-Mantled Wraith
3x Ulaire Otsea, Black-Mantled Wraith
4x Lost to the Goblins

Lost to the Goblins works! I mean, sometimes.

This deck is all about the shadow. Bid high, go first. Grab Preparations. You are going to stack all of your shadow cards. Send them back to the deck with Rest By Blind Night. And just try to hold it out until you have the perfect hand

The perfect hand, of course, is three Goblin Runners, three or four Lost to the Goblins, and something to get a wound on the Ring-Bearer--a Nazgul and Morgul Brute, maybe?

Of course the deck is about misdirection up until then. Play the Nazgul, play the Morgul Destroyers and Morgul Brutes. You want your opponent to think burdens are the goal.

The deck is 2-2, but frankly it has to be played sparingly. It doesn't work if they see it coming. After all, the easiest way to avoid it is to exhaust the ring-bearer.

Some nice work done!

Maybe something to protect your Runners to get into the regroup phase? Otherwise they will be killed before you can get Gollum or the Nazguls of.

And wait, burdens are the goal in the end or am I wrong?
Go King Standard!

Burdens are absolutely the goal. If you send the whole shadow back into an empty draw deck via Preparations/Rest By Blind Night, you can potentially guarantee 9-to-12 burdens for an instant corruption.

Just wondered what you meant here

Also, I've some ideas for the FPs, but I want to try it out first.
Go King Standard!

Rather than nazgul and morgul brute, pick a twilight nazgul and the nazgul event that exerts the ring bearer.

If you opponent knows Lost to the Goblins is coming, he or she can just play with the ring-bearer exhausted. So you don't want cards that exert the ring-bearer--you want to wound the ring-bearer.

For a while, I played a movie block version that heavily utilized Gollum, Dark as Darkness. That was a much stronger build than this (the Dwarves were heartier, for one). But I like to drop the random Lost to the Goblins every once in a while.

If you don't play to much before the bomb drops they'll have a hard time exhausting the RB.
Go King Standard!
