Swiss Tournament on Gemp?
« on: October 28, 2018, 07:20:39 AM »
Hey!

Is there anybody up for a swiss all card tournament? I don't know about you, but I'm a bit sick of the league system we have.
The only problem would be that the participants'd have to be trustable. Nobody wants to get kicked out because their opponent was a week not online.

Details can be cleared later, I just want to test the waters.

Details:
When everybody joined and the format is clear, I'll post the pairings here.
Then everybody gets max. a week (or another realistic deadline) to play their game and shot me a pm (both players!!) with the results.
When everybody did that (or when time runs out) next pairings will be posted here and so on until one winner is there.

So I add a list with interested people/participants
If you want to be added or removed just post it
We need at least 8

-HumanHydra (December)
-Phallen
-Sibiatu (Movie)
-(DarthMaeglin)(later, maybe)
-mathes (FotR-Block, Movie; No Swiss)
-hight91 (FotR, TTT)

I just don't have the time. Maybe if it were organized for the second half of December.

Gemp can already do swiss My Card tournaments on demand if enough people join, and you probably have enough gold to buy whatever deck you want. I'm interested, but I can't commit. It's a good idea to plan on here to get everybody on at the same time, though.

Oh, Phallen you're right, I know that but I'm not sure how exactly these works.
They state like Daily Rohan Movie Tournament (and similar) and some dates but I'm sure you could arrange some.

What I want is to play a completely normal tournament.

But even if they would be back introduced, I think it would be good to do organize them independent from the Gemp tournament, because, as Hydra stated, many people do not have the time to do them in one day or whatever time Gemp gives the players.

My thoughts were to make people join here, give the rounds known here and then every player has a week (or similar) to play their game on Gemp and pm me the results. Then I could give the pairings and so on.

If you haven't already, maybe you should mention it in the Gemp chat. Despite the recent bustle, I'm sure most players still don't check these forums.

So I thought we'd collect people first and then discuss which format. But if this way to host a tournament, I'm sure more will come.
One could go even bigger but thats for the future.

I'll make a list with interested people, we need at least 8 (that'd be 3 rounds) but more are possible (and welcome) too!

Unfortunately my current job can make me unavailable for weeks at a time on short notice. I'm hoping to change that, and once I do I would be interested in participating in something like this.
I like the sound of bringing the forums and the playrooms together more and I think people seeing chatter over something structured like this could be a great way to draw interest over here.

Hey,

even though I see the swiss format as the "king of the formats" for LOTR it works even worse than for other C/TCG.

I have organized couple tournaments and getting people to play their game is something that turns very challenging very often.

What I would recommend is to kick off with double elimination tournament, its much easier to organize and the tournament flows much better.

What is 'double Elimination'? Just plain single elimination or being beaten twice or what? Never heard of that before.
And I'd say it depends on what the others want once we hit 8 players. And I'm sure it should be possible to make the time limit, so everybody gets a chance to play their game.
Are you up for a tournament?

Double elimination is very simple.

Its like the usual tournament spider but you have two brackets - you have the winners bracket (up) and losers bracket (down).

If you lose a game in the winners' bracket, you fall down to losers bracket.

If you lose a game in the losers' bracket, you are out of the tournament.

The final stage is a little bit confusing as it is the winner of the winners' bracket against the winner of losers' bracket.

As the winner already lost once, he would have to win twice in the row to win the whole tournament.

It's a pretty good format as everybody plays at least 2 games so its not as harsh as single elim tournament and doesn't drag too long as swiss tournaments tend to.

Ok, thank you! Sounds ...interesting. Still, I'd prefer a system I know but as I said normally everything is ok with me as long as we get things going. But first of we'd need some more people, mathes would you be up for a try?

Well I play only FOTR and Movie and the format is not yet decided, right?

I would consider to join but honestly I have some experience with online tournaments and if you would go with the swiss I will most likely pass as I have seen and played too many swiss tournaments that stuck somewhere in the middle with half people played around 3/4 of the games and some people still with 0-1 games played

Ok, I'll add you then but keep in mind you'll play only Elimination Tournaments. But I really hope we could prove you wrong and that my system works so you can play next one :P
