Elves - Nazgûl Corruption
« on: January 16, 2022, 12:02:35 PM »
This is a deck I've played off and on for a while, but now I finally feel is quite effective. I am in the process of foiling it on GEMP, and will post more replays when I get them.

Ring-bearer: Galadriel, Bearer of Wisdom
Ring: The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles

Adventure deck:
Rohirrim Road
West Road
Hall of the Kings
City of the Dead
Pelennor Flat
Minas Tirith Seventh Circle
Osgiliath Crossing
Morgulduin
Slag Mounds

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
1x Arwen, Queen of Elves and Men
2x Cirdan, The Shipwright
2x Elrond, Venerable Lord
2x Gil-galad, Elven High King
1x Legolas, Greenleaf
2x Radagast, The Brown
1x Asfaloth
4x Elven Bow
1x Elven Sword
1x Gwemegil
1x Aiglos
1x Nenya, Ring of Adamant
1x Vilya, Ring of Air
1x A Grey Ship
4x Alliance Reforged
4x Company of Archers
2x Curse Their Foul Feet!
4x Double Shot
2x Feathered
3x Valor
2x Glimpse of Fate
1x The Splendor of Their Banners
1x The Tale of Gil-galad

Shadow Draw Deck:
1x Gollum, Stinker
2x The Witch-king, Black Captain
2x Úlairë Cantëa, Thrall of the One
1x Úlairë Enquëa, Lieutenant of Morgul
3x Úlairë Enquëa, Thrall of the One
2x Úlairë Otsëa, Thrall of the One
2x Úlairë Toldëa, Messenger of Morgul
2x Úlairë Toldëa, Winged Sentry
2x Fell Beast
2x Ring of Rancor
4x Captured by the Ring
4x All Blades Perish
2x Between Nazgul and Prey
3x Dark Swooping Shadows
2x Fear
2x Bent on Discovery
2x Drawn to Its Power
4x Gates of the Dead City
1x Out of Sight and Shot
1x The Ring Draws Them

Bid 1, and go first if you win. Start Arwen and Legolas. After that, it's pretty simple. Toldea, MoM + Drawn to its Power is killer, and Enquea, ToTO and Gates of the Dead City soften them up for a potential kill if burdening isn't enough. The freeps just either shoots everything or steamrolls it.

Thoughts:
Adding ESF to recur my Nazgul. Gollum could pull a key Enquea back if I need him.

Perhaps add Forearmed + MoW?

Currently the only loss with this iteration is when I lost connection and timed out.

It seems you have only 14 minions in a 90 card deck. Isn't that way too little? Also the deck seems quite big at 90 cards.

I don't seem to have much trouble getting minions, but yes I need a slimmer deck lol. Do you have any suggestions?

You want to do too much on the shadow side. Have you noticed by now that some cards work less efficient, maybe its time to cut them. I am not too sold on the Gollum package for this build. I am unsure about Fear also, as I don't recognise an ally that gives your corruption plan problems. I would play 4 Enduring Enqueas and 4 Thrall as that is your main condition in adding burdens.

On the free peoples side I would cut the Archery specific stuff and go to the dark side by playing Frodo and Galadriel, Lady Redeemed. Glorfindel is another companion that is a must. Especially with all the expensive Nazghul Glorfindel and Forearmed are ideal to eat up almost anything.

Thanks for the advice! I've been skeptical about Gollum as well, but as for GLR…no. Never[-X

You are right about the Freeps being unfocused. While I won't play GLR, perhaps Lady of the Golden Wood would be a good option, then I can keep people healed easier. Also, I think that dropping Winged Sentry might be a good idea.

If you play elven allies, think about Secret Sentinels also. Its better than company of archers.

I don%u2019t seem to have much trouble getting minions, but yes I need a slimmer deck lol. Do you have any suggestions?

Elrond seems to be doing the least for you overall, and Vilya, Ring of Air is somewhat unreliable and probably worth cutting. (I don't like singleton Ring of Air without The Binding Ring.) Aegnor, Elven Escort or Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath are options. There are more-reliable healing options than companion Elrond, like Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad or Shadow Between.

I would cut one of the non-Aiglos hand weapons, if not both. It's just bloat that you'd mainly be playing on Arwen or Elrond, when they're your third or fourth best skirmishers in many circumstances. Honestly the same argument applies to Asfaloth, who is probably overkill, but that's such a great card in movie that I hate to suggest cutting it. You can pick up a tool for cycling in Shadow Between instead.

You could be a little more ruthless cutting dupes of the conditions, possibly using The Council of Elrond to smooth things out. (I don't know why people don't play that card more in Cirdan decks!) The Council of Elrond can grab The Splendor of their Banners early, pick a one-of or two-of Hosts of the Last Alliance, or just turn itself into a pricier copy of Alliance Reforged (while not counting against the rule of 4 itself, and setting up Cirdan faster). It's giving away more twilight but it's setting up Cirdan and filtering.

Is there an orc deck you're really afraid of that you're running Curse Their Foul Feet? I don't see this deck as particularly vulnerable to morcs or Moria. I personally prefer Stand Against Darkness for that sort of thing, but without GLR, this is some more bloat you could cut.

I think The Witch-King, Black Captain is a gimmick, compared to The Witch-king, Morgul King. You're already running a threat package anyway, and this lets you store his toys (or run The Pale Blade) safely in discard for later retrieval.

I'd run one of each Toldea. If you really want three, two Winged Sentries and one Messenger of Morgul. Winged Sentry is a strong minion no matter when it comes out, while Messenger of Morgul is really reliant on spotting those burdens. And if you can spot those burdens and you're fishing with Morgul King or Morgulduin, you probably want shotgun Enquea instead anyway.

Drawn to Its Power and The Ring Draws Them are the epitome of win-more cards. I'm not a fan of them, and I'd recommend looking at your replays to see if they're really the cards closing out games. They feel great to use but I think they're bloat.

I don't think Fear is the strongest card you could be using to exert Nazgul. Some other options are Relentless Charge, Black Marshal, more BNAP, or Ithil Stone. There's no ally that makes me go, "Welp, this deck's done" but being able to pick off Greenleaf or greater consistency overall? Those are both useful.

All Blades Perish feels like it might clog. I know it's helping with wounding matchups though.

Hopefully this is a start on slimming down the deck.

Cease,
Thanks for the feedback! I made a lot of edits to the free peoples, and the shadow is slimmer and a bit better. I actually run Toldea, Thrall of the One instead of Winged sentry for the Enduring keyword.

Rohirrim Road
West Road
Hall of the Kings
City of the Dead
Pelennor Flat
Minas Tirith Seventh Circle
Osgiliath Crossing
Morgulduin

2x Galadriel, Lady of the Golden Wood
1x Asfaloth
1x Gwemegil
1x Sting, Baggins Heirloom
1x Aiglos
1x Nenya, Ring of Adamant
1x Vilya
2x Alliance Reforged
4x Company of Archers
1x Curse Their Foul Feet!
4x Forearmed
4x Valor
2x Glimpse of Fate
2x The Tale of the Great Ring

Shadow Draw Deck:
2x The Witch-king, Black Captain

You've still got a lot of one-of and two-of wraiths, and i think it might be a good idea to focus down on ones that can do work. Ulaire Attea, Thrall of the One and Ulaire Toldea, Thrall of the One aren't very efficient unless you execute their gimmicks perfectly, which seems a bit out of scope for what appears to be a corruption-focused deck. You could focus more on beatdown, with some of the more-efficient minions that aren't Enduring, or more on corruption, with Winged Sentry and Morgul Brute (and maybe the morc archer who spots burdens).
