The SWCCG Players' Committee could do what it did because they had permission from Decipher. We don't.

Contact decipher what the possibilities are. They granted it for SWCCG and STCCG, so why not for LotR

Actually the Players Committee for the WOTC SWTCG is not acting with any permission. One thing I can draw your attention to is that the WOTC SW TCG PC (wow, lots o' letters!) uses pictures from movies other than SW and photoshops the images. They are breaking all the so-called rules and have gotten away with it for years.

This is what Lucas has to say about using stuff from his movies. This is from Wookipedia

Doesn't look like it. On the SWCCG PC website, it says:

In 2001, Decipher lost the rights to make the card game, and were forced to stop printing it. At this point, Decipher worked with Lucasfilm Ltd. to give stewardship of the card game to members of the playing community. This group became the Star Wars: CCG Player's Committee and they were in charge of cultivating the game now that it was no longer in print.

This has not happened for LotR.

You are absolutely correct for Deciphers SWCCG PC, I am talking about Wizards of the Coasts TCG and PC. They do not have the close and legal agreemant that Decipher's PC does. The WOTC game group has gotten away with it for years now, I personally don't think we need to be so careful.

Update: This is the WOTC SWTCG IDC (or PC in our parlance): http://www.skywlkr.net/idc/index.asp Check out the Battle of Endor Expansion and look at Baron Soontir Fel, Pelleon, and Imperial Banker for an example of the IDC using images from at least 2 different franchises (Star Wars, 007, NFL(?), etc) I assure you they did not get permission for all of these images and templates. Though they might have tacit acceptance of WOTC for the templates, Lucas is very protective obviously-- even for nonprofit reasons, hence the SWCCG PC (Decipher) doesn't use official images.

It is not the same the the SWCCG PC and does not have the same relationship with Lucas as the Decipher game does.
