"This is my hour!"-WK/Toldea beatdown
« on: May 30, 2009, 01:47:47 PM »
Greetings all,
I was curious what you thought of my nazgul beatdown deck. After various plays, it seems to consume even Frodo, Resolute Hobbit bearing the Great Ring. What it cannot seem to do is defeat a Gimli, Eager Hunter possession spam if he survives to site 3. Honestly, besides using  Grima Wormtongue, how can you stop that machine??

Minions
The Witch King, CotNR x4
Ulaire Toldea, WS x4
Ulaire Nertea, DH x2
Ulaire Nelya, LoM
Ulaire Lemenya, ET x3
Ulaire Lemenya, DE
Ulaire Cantea, LoDG

Events
Houses of Lamentation x4
Morgul Gates x2

Possessions
The Pale Blade x2
Sword of Dol Guldur x 2
Black Flail
The Witch-Kings Beast x2
Black Steed

Artefacts
Ring of Asperity x2
Ring of Ire x2
Ring of Rancor x2

Conditions
Blade Tip x3
Black Breath x2

Total: 41

Reccuring Nazgul is not a problem, grace a rings. Cycling is not a problem since my Gondor deck usually allows rapid turnover; any excess Nazgul are discarded when not needed. I have two Rings of Savegery and a Ring of Terror en route, so that might help, allowing me to drop Nertea or Nelya from the deck.

Please feel free to be critical.

Firstly, I think 41 cards are too much. I f you want to do soemthing against Hunters, try Pull of the ring.

Which sites do you use? It is not clear to me, what you want your Nazgul to do - but it seems like an allrounder deck, which I like very much.

Here are my suggestions:
3x The Witch-king, Captain of the Nine Riders
3x Ulaire Toldea, Black Shadow
3x Ulaire Enquea, Thrall of the one
3x Ulaire Cantea, Thrall of the one
3x Ulaire Nelya, Third of the Nine Riders
3x Ulaire Nertea, Dark Horseman
3x Ulaire Lemenya, Eternally threatening
2x Riders in Black OR 2x Loathsome (instead of Houses of Lamentation)
2x Dark Approach (instead of Morgul Gates)
2x Lost in the woods (strength boost!)
2x Sense of Obligation (burdens!)
2x Keening Wail
2x Hatred Stirred
Between Nazgul and prey

The weapons are very expensive, put Ring of Savagery / Ring of terror in your deck!

Well, our gaming circle tends to use the unconventional format of expanded cards and playing by movie sites (One game =FOTR, Second = TTT, etc...). We are meditating upon going to the expanded sites. Therefore, as of yet, I do not have a site list available for expanded. Furthermore, due to the fact that I got into this game after Decipher's downfall, it is difficult to procure some of the cards, id est Dark Approach and the Pull of the Ring; thus I was trying to focus on a non-forest dependent nazgul strategy.

In our three-player games, I am usually arrayed against the Gimli possession spam deck and an elf/gandalf deck, both using Frodo, Resolute Hobbit. In all the games, Ulaire Toldea, WS and the Witch King, COtNR, pumped up to about 20 strength with possessions or events, were the minions to effect the most damage. I do not know if the BNAP-Ulaire Enquea strategy would work the best against their decks, but I am going to try to focus another deck solely on that strategy.

I agree that the weapons are expensive, and I am trying to find a better way of producing strength (Fell beast?). Maybe pursuing a threat strategy would work (Held Ground, supported with Stronghold of Minas Morgul)

First revision. I changed some of the rings and removed some of the unwieldy possessions. Pray let me know what you think. I still am having a problem with Dwarven event spam and acquiring enough twilight to effect the beatdown desired. How does one combat the frenzy of dwarven event spam?

36 Cards

Witch King CotNR x4
Ulaire Lemenya, ET x3
Ulaire Toldea, WS x3
Ulaire Cantea, BA
Ulaire Cantea, LoDG
Ulaire Enquea, Bt
Grima Wormtongue x2

Events

Morgul Gates x2
Dark Whispers x2

Possessions/Artefacts

The Pale Blade
The Pale Blade, SoF x2
The Witch King's Beast
Ring of Savagery x2
Ring of Terror
Ring of Ire

Conditions

Sense of Obligation x2
Black Breath x3
Blade Tip x4
