Yo Mythdracon (FP and Shadow)
« on: June 04, 2008, 08:29:13 PM »
Hey, Mythdracon, I know you've been looking for a fun, yet still competitive deck. I played this deck immediately after RoS came out, and surprised a few people with it who swore that the deck should die instantly. But it didn't. So, here goes.

RB And Ring
*The One Ring, The Great Ring (19P1)
*Frodo, Resolute Hobbit (10P121)

Sites
(0) Breeding Pit of Isengard (15S188)
(0) Isenwash (13U193)
[1] Isengard Ruined (15U192)
[1] Nurn (17U148)
[1]Rohan Uplands (11S257)
[2] Westfold Village (15S194)
[3]Green Dragon Inn (11S242)
[3]Pinnacle of Zirakzigil (11S255)
[3]Valley of the Silverlode (11S261)

Fellowship (35)
1x *Farmer Maggot, Hobbit of the Marish (11U163) (starting)
1x *Fredegar Bolger, Fatty (18R107) (starting)
1x *Merry, In the Bloom of Health (17U107) (starting)
1x *Pippin, In the Bloom of Health (17U109) (starting)

1x *Gandalf, Returned (17R17)
1x *Sam, Great Elf Warrior (10P122)

4x Halfling Leaf (17U106)
2x Not the First Halfling (8U18)
4x Southfarthing Leaf (17U110)

2x Community Living (15C143)
2x Momentous Gathering (15U32)
4x No Visitors (15C150)

2x *Alatar, Final Envoy (13U28)
1x *Daddy Twofoot, Next-door Neighbor (13U144)
2x *Pallando, Far-travelling One (13R37)

1x *Glamdring, Foe-hammer (11R35)
1x *Sting, Weapon of Heritage (11R173)
4x Hobbit Sword (7C319)

Shadow (35)
2x *Poised For Assault (15U166)
2x *Tracking the Prize (18U123)

4x Violent Hurl (15C179)
2x You Do Not Know Fear (17R137)

2x *Lurtz, Now Perfected (15R162)
2x *Mauhur, Relentless Hunter (15S164)
3x *Ugluk, Ugly Fellow (15R172)
4x Chasing Uruk (15C157)
4x White Hand Guard (17C126)
4x White Hand Invader (17C128)
4x Following Uruk (15U160)
2x *Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul (10R88)

Freeps strategy- PIPEWEED! And big comps! Alatar + Gandy = 2 tokens on Not The First Halfling, making Gandy a potential strength 13 equivalent without costing you a thing. Oh, but it removes a burden. Sam + Sting = 11 base strength, Maggot + Sword at right site = 9, etc.

Daddy Twofoot/No Visitors = sweetness, and then there's Halfling Leaf and pipeweeds, so that should rock as well.

Shadow side is an Uruk-Hai Site Control Grind. The kind I LOVE! Basically, seize sites, win skirmishes via Guard and Violent Hurls, seize more sites, combo an Invader/Gothmog and BOOM! The effect is bigger if you've been using Ugluk, Following Uruk, Lurtz and Tracking the Prize. Just make their wounds stick, seize sites and then drop your Invaders and Gothmogs. Gothmog is a pretty hefty threat himself as well.

Awesome. Will definitely construct FP side once I get enough RoS Uncommons.

The Uruk side requires those Hunters rares...gargh. I guess I could use pieces of paper with their names on it instead....lol. :S

Thanks so much for the decklist! Will try it out. :)

You can drop those rares for 4x You Do Not Know Pain if you want. Chasing Uruk and Ugluk are a pretty cool combo, though, I'd try to get some.

You can also try to get 1x of each of the unique guys and Vile Pit.

One thing....how would you get Gandalf early on in this deck? It's 35 cards per side, doesn't look too likely we'll be seeing him early....or perhaps ever. Even though the event helps. O_o

EDIT: Wait, I guess with Community Living and Daddy Twofoot you could replay the event over and over again...just hope Gandy doesn't get *discarded* That would suck, a lot. Would there be any way to draw him back if he does get discarded?

Gandalf should be played with Momentous and remain on table for rest of game. He is key in this deck, so keep him alive as long as possible !

I was thinking Sting of Shelob might do it too. But yes, Mordor discard, Orc discard as well.

If discard is really that much of a concern, Momentous Gathering could be switched to more copies Gandalf, Returned. Seriously though, I think the risk is outweighed by the chance to pull Not the First Halfling faster... maybe 1 Gathering / 2 Returned if you want to play it safe.

How often do you see sting of shelob played? I have played several games in person and many many more on sda where any card(S) can be used and I have seen sting of shelob played one time. It was when Macheteman was trying to make something that hasn't been done before. IMHO sting of shelob cost far to much to play for the possibility of discarding a companion. You have to have the 10 twilight to play it and on top of that pay 6 for shelob (8 more times then not).  Not to mention the freeps player get to make that decision anyway. As for Mordor discard this deck is standard and the red eye tactic that discards the best would be expanded format. This topic has been brought up several times in the past there is no way to make a deck flawless and it will always have some kind of weakness. If you see your opponent running discard then hope for the best and do what you can

If a Balrog falls from a bridge and noone is around, does it make a sound?

It's give and take... trying to defend against everything could actually weaken a deck, not make it stronger.

Sting of Shelob actually places a companion in the dead pile, but like NappyKorn said the Free Peoples player gets to choose anyway.
