Gil-Estel is the father of Elrond, also known as Earendil. I loved the story where he went to Valinor to get redemption for the people of Middle Earth. He tresspassed Valinor, but the Valar were not upset, and they valued his attempt. As a 'reward' the remaining Silmaril was placed onto his ship and brought into an orbit around the world. He is considered a star eversince, hence the light of Earendil, our most beloved star.
His name means Light of Hope, and I try to be one in my surrounding ;)

Pepino, the Breve (some say it's an translation error) was Charles Martel's son and Charles Magno father. he was king of the "Francos" (don't know how you say that in english). There are some interesting things about this name: First of all i don't like his "all milytary let's crush them with our cataphracts" style and "i'm the **#%¨&#$" king screw all the rest", but i always like his name that in portuguese is an vegetable (!) and i like that kind of irony.

Another nice stuff is that altough he had made several acomplishes for his people (well maybe not exactly "to" them) but he is not near as remembered as his father and his son. So to shortcut the history: i taught that was a nice way of gathering Pippin name (one of my favorite characters) into that "weird" name (vegetable!).

I'm no history expert so i end my talking now.

Kenddrick is my name. Hmm, if there's a nickname I use for playing occasional games, it would be rambokc. Why rambokc? Well I pretty much idolised Rambo, Terminator, Indiana Jones as a kid, and my names is Kenddrick Chan, so, rambokc. :)

Mine has a curious story...

Some ten years ago or so, I used to be into an online MUD called Wheel of Time MUD (the game still exists, wotmud.org). MUD's are online multiplayer games, the predecessors to games like WoW. The difference is that MUD's are only text. You have to use your imagination... much like reading a book. They are just as addicting, though. :P

So anyway, in this game, once your character gets to level 5, they get randomly assigned their base stats: str, dex, int, con, etc. These stats can NEVER change and are yours for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, this mechanic led many players to start (or "stat") many, many new characters and level to 5 until they got competitive numbers. Some of the stats would be simply unplayable in the later game. Poor newbies didn't know this and might spend the whole game dying in combat because they didn't spend 100's of hours in the early game.

Every character had to have a different name, and it had to be a good one, otherwise they were tossed in the "Silly Names" room. One night I was stat'ing various trolls... one after another, worthless numbers. The Shop Around the Corner (great old movie with James Stewart) was playing in the other room, so I used Kralik as one of my names. Lo and behold, he got the good stats! So "Mister" Kralik became my online persona while I played WoTMUD for a few more months. Eventually I started using him in other places online.

Since I'm a Jimmy Stewart fan, he is my avatar. I don't own The Shop Around the Corner, so I grabbed a screenshot from It's a Wonderful Life (can you guess the scene?)

Apparently the name means "rabbit" in Czech... not "crab" as suspected. ;)

Ulmo is one of the Valar and my favourite.  All waters were under his control.  My avatar is of Ulmo meeting with Tuor.

While I was in high school, a friend played guitar.  One day, he and I were conversing about being rock stars.  As a trumpet player I never intended to be a rock star, but is still fun to dream.  The conversation lead to what we would call ourselves, as far as stage names go, and he chose for himself K.W. Pluckit.  I was jealous of his awesome name and asked, "What should I call myself as a trumpet player, perhaps once I'm a famous jazz musician?"

He asked, "What is the name of a famous trumpet player?"

"Dizzy Gilespy,"  I responded.

"J Dizzy," was his answer.  So to this day my SN has always been jdizzy to reflect that.  The 001 at the end is because I'm the first J Dizzy.

NBarden comes from my name.

But on other websites I go by Slightly Insane, SomeRandomDude, coldflame91 or madsciencemusician. For what should be obvious reasons (they're cool!).

9 times out of 10 I go by my xbox live name -OpsElite, but I have a few others

OpsElite came about in 2002 when Halo 1 came out, and I was in the clan (Ops), and I had always like the elites in the game, so I combined them. Turns out it sounds similar obsolete, which is rather fitting I think.

My other obvious name is MR. Lurtzy, which doesn't really have any special signifigance, other than every time I sign my name, I put Mr. in front, and Lurtz was my favorite "bad guy" from Fellowship.

Other names included Tails (which ironically enough has nothing to do with who it should), and Strummy, which is a nickname my coworkers have for me in real life.
