i guess it's because that many players are playing online, like i do. in fact of that you don't need many "real cards" anymore, because "online" you can built your dream deck with all cards...

I have only seen the non-foil Shadows set sell once.  It went for around $65 (which I think is inflated).  The foil set goes for aroung $10.
