Official Regions
« on: December 21, 2009, 08:53:54 PM »
I know that both in STCCG and SWCCG the globe was broken down into different regions.  This specifically helped organization of the tournaments as well as the player body in general.  Personally I'd like to see these brought back if there ever were any or make them up using the format the STCCG or SWCCG people use.

This would allow people to start getting involved in their local areas, and perhaps in time we could push towards a "World" event like some of the card games still have.  Sure it's still down the road, but I think getting just a little more organization would be good for us :)

Well, I'm from South-East Asia. And currently I think I am the only LotR: TCG player active in the region.I'm happy to get things done in the region till someone else with more experience takes over.

Kenddrick - are there hobby stores in your area? Any gaming groups?

From my experience - if you can find people that enjoy playing card games, dice games, etc - they are usually willing to try new games. Once they try it they may like it and pick it up as part of their hobby. Try and get out there and demo the game if you can.

I guess I am lucky that I live in an area where there are a lot of gaming groups and I have easy access to hobby stores that run Magic, Star Trek, etc tournaments regularly.

Yes there are many Magic: The Gathering game stores out there. I've got a couple of questions:

-How do I bring up the topic of a LotR: TCG demo?
-How do we demo the game to a group of players who only play Magic and make them want to play?
-What if they ask me what is the point of playing a game that is out of production?

I just thought of the most common questions. Anyway, I still feel that with a PC we could all sit down and eventually release a guide on how to demo/promote LotR: TCG.

LOTR has something going for it that Magic does not - it is based on something else which is a popular license and this should assist in getting people back to the game or to start playing it.

I doubt a guidebook is going to help with introducing LOTR to new or returning players. Even though the players like MTG they still have one thing in common with us - they like to play card games. Some will only play one game, but others will like to try new things (or may have played LOTR in the past). All you can do is ask.

Once you are known amongst this group, they are more likely to be willing to try new things. I suggest play some MTG with them. Show you have a common interest and then introduce the idea of LOTR once they know you (if they do not already).

I am reasonably well-known in my area having played card games for 15+ years and this helps. If i walked into a place where noone knew me, i would try and get involved on their terms first (by playing whatever they play).

You need just to show how beautiful thecards are. Could you resist a Foil Lady of Light, Balrog, Demon of Might, or The binding ring?

Those who loved the movies will give it a try...

Why not just print off a few of those free sets that decipher put out a long time ago?  (or pm me for a better copy that look better) and throw them in some sleeves.  You could even offer a few mini-prizes for people that try out the game.  Maybe a pick from a collection of cards with all the mains (common mains mind you).  I know I always like getting free things when I play :)

Could even offer the demo deck up as a prize too for the person that wins the most or something.  I know it sounds like tournaments, but demos and tournaments are similar :)

I'm glad to see how involved you are Kenddrick. We really need more players from Asia or Oceania because there are a lot of people on GCCG except during late American nights (or early morning Euro time) when it's sometime impossible to find somebody to play with. People are still up in the Asian Pacific timezones and it would be great to have them on GCCG.
