Regret Selling My Cards
« on: July 13, 2010, 12:04:46 PM »
Last year I sold my entire Lord of the Ring collection because I was short of funds and had some urgent bills that had to be paid. Boy do I regret that sale. I've done this before with other card collections in the past. I'm thinking about getting back into LoTR collecting again. No idea where to begin though.  :-S

My question for y'all is, have you ever sold/traded your prized collection/item and really regret it afterwards? What happened? Did you recollect the same items?

Start Lotr collection AGAIN? That will be tough. I wish you luck.

I haven't sold anything I regret, but I do REALLY regret not bidding on that Gandalf, PG on eBay a while ago when I could have done so. It ended like in $3.50.

My advice would be to not worry about anything after set 10. You can get Movie block sets cheap at Hill's and by buying bulk loose lots on ebay. You could probably get a decent collection fairly inexpensively if you collect Movie Block cards only. Its the best selection of cards anyway.

How much are you willing to spend?

I would do the same.  Focus on movie block.  Rely on gccg for the rest

WHAT?! ALL of them? Come on, they are totally worth keeping. You won't get enough to make it worth not having them in the future. Trust me and the guy who started this thread.

He's keeping at least 2 of his 3 nearly-complete foil decks.

I recommend starting on GCCG. Why spend money you don't have to? You'll just end up getting foolhardy ideas like foiling your last few decks and then end up spending more and actively trading, etc.

Play for free, world-wide, against the best competition you will find. And the worst, too I guess. Most everyone who is here is there.

I will probably start collecting again this August. I'll probably have a couple hundred to put down for some cards by then.

Thanks WK for answering for me!

Edit: Jerba, if you have any of the foils I still need, let me know. I'd love to buy them, or play for them (although I doubt you have much interest in my waning collection).

At the moment, I'm inclined to disagree with the idea of keeping cards....mostly because so few people play LOTR TCG with physical cards now, and because I have no friends in Korea to play the cards with. The primary reason is that my cards aren't even here yet, and my life is running normally without them (and better, in some ways). I do miss making strategies/discussing strategies with friends and crafting decks, but that takes an inordinate amount of time for me, which I could be spending studying for law school, or playing other games with friends online. I don't know...there are many sales I do regret though. XD

I don't think I do. I can't track down the foil Hate I thought I had and I won't part with my foil Goblin Armory.

I think I would never sell my collection, even if some crazy dude would offer me 10.000 usd. That would be just over my beak even point I think, but the effort I put in it is priceless. Hours and hours spend on collecting, completing my sets, it was my own quest of middle earth. So I would regret it beyond believe.

I don't get hung up on possessions. Like I said, I intend to keep my three decks as long as I play even sporadically, but the remainder of the cards are just taking up space and gathering dust*, so I don't need them.
