Personally, I'm almost beyond caring.

I will say this for Obama. He can speak good. And honestly, I don't like the guy, I don't trust him, and I fundamentally disagree with most/all of his policies.

But.

He had a good speech last night. I was sitting there with a cynical smile of half total agreement and half polar opposition to him.

Anyway, that's that for the next four years. I expect that people are going to regret this (though not necessarily until his term(s?) are over) but whatever. I wouldn't have been too happy about McCain, either.

Meanwhile, I'm off to go get my passport renewed, and apply for a Permanent Residence Visa for Canada

Well...I was at work at 5 and at a victory party until, uh, midnight, after which I did hit the proverbial hay. Hence, I'm just now getting on here.

That's the way its supposed to work. That's not the way it actually works. The way it works is this.

Supreme Court Justices retire.
Obama appoints Supreme Court Justices, getting a majority on the court.
The Supreme Court is now the sole entity to decide what is a constitutional right and what is unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court makes the laws.

So yeah, Obama is going to have a heyday for the next 4 years. Decisions I foresee...

Gun bans, increased restrictions.
Gay marriage legalized in all 50 states.
All restrictions on abortion declared unconstitutional.
Affirmative Action based on sexual orientation, banning "hate speech" against homosexuals (meaning that churches can no longer preach Scripture that says homosexuality is a sin).

This is what upsets me the most: Obama is already on record for saying that the first thing he'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act (Full text). By overriding the states' restrictions and discouragements (for example, parental involvement laws), the estimate is that there would be an additional 125,000 abortions per year, bringing the US close to 1.5 million a year.

seriously I am just glad its freakin over. 20 frickin months since they announced candidacy...its insane.
And obama, love him or hate him, that guy can speak...I think he can unite the American people, bring in the good things of social democracy and make us look better worldwide.  As for abortion, he can't really make it work, he's not stupid enough to tick off the NRA, and for affirmative action/gay marriage...he and his VP have both said they support civil unions but not gay marriage, so I am not too concerned.

I anticipate greatly what he will do as president.

The funny thing is, the Supreme Court isn't even meant to 'make' laws but they virtually do by 're-interpreting'
the Constitution every time they want to.

Truth is a matter of faith, and there's no discussing faith. You might think it's true, but keep offensive comments to yourself, there are ways to say the same things without being directly offensive to a fellow forumer. Be as angry as you like, but just remember that I could, in fact, delete your whole post based on it having an offensive comment in it without even reading it to the end and send you a warning PM, which I didn't so as to preserve your right to express your opinion, WITHIN the boundaries of the rules of the Forum, aka no bashing, no flaming and no name-calling other members.
